So, I've been looking at the 1911 platform, and I know that there are double stack 1911's but it seems that they're aren't a lot of reliable "high capacity" (over 10) magazines for the 1911 but this basic design could apply to any single stack magazine. I got this idea from all the quad stack rifle magazines coming out.

The biggest challenge will be the spring follower setup, I'm not familiar with how the quad stack magazine followers are setup but I have a few ideas. I think these are more size efficient in carrying rounds and would serve well in duty weapons being that the magazine fits the profile of the  of the grip and still allows the ergos. of a single stack firearm.

A quality manufacture will have to make them to develop them to be reliable and they won't be cheap but as long as their reliable I know I'd buy some for my single stacks and you could push the round count up even higher if you wanted as well as make the single stack portion of the magazine for different frame lengths.

Go ahead and let me know what you think.

I think the design would be a bit too complicated for the three or five extra rounds that you would get. Kind of like the Surefire AR mags out now. Sure you get 60 rounds but the multiple followers and triple or quad springs inside just overcomplicate things and the cost is just crazy. For the same price I could have one Surefire 60 rounder for, you could get close to ten or more Magpul 30 rounders.

I picture the mag being pretty tall and wide at the bottom as well which could make carrying extra mags a little uncomfortable but then again maybe not since it would fit any normal 1911 mag carrier.

Definately not a bad idea but I think the cost of each mag once it hit the market would be entirely too high to make it worth while.

Even if you could get the reliability to where the Surefire mags are, I still think you'd be pricing yourself out of the market. Think about what good single stack mags cost, let along double stack. Now design a hybrid mag around that. 60 rounds in an AR is one thing, 15 in a 1911 is another completely.

I know it would be expensive compared to single stack magazines.

How do the surefire magazines work with the duel followers?
