I'm trying to decide between the TLR-1 and the TLR3. Help me make my choice! If there's a better light out there for the money let me know. It will be for my G19.

I have both. The #1 is made of metal for the most part. It is far brighter then the #3. The only nice thing about the #3 is that it's smaller, and lighter in weight.

I would go with the #1 if you are staying with that brand.

Now, knowing how the brand is I would go with an Insight.

Oh, I do use them at work as lights on an entry weapon and on a G23 for duty use.

Overall length of the 3 is noticably shorter than the 1, if that's an issue.
The 3 is also substantially cheaper.

But you're right, while the 3 is by no means dim, the 1 is quite a bit brighter.

I have the TLR-1s on GEN-4-22. It is an awesome light. I am getting the TLR-3 for my Ruger SR9c. I like the full sized light on the full-sized gun and the compact for the compact. Its just my style. I also have the Insight M3. It's not as bright but just as good. I love the strobe feature of the s series stream-light. Hope this helps some.

I went with a TLR-1s on my Glock 35... but the length of the gun means that the light adds no length, and only a little width to the gun in carry. I would hesitate to put one on a G19...
The mounting surfaces of the TLR-3 place it much further forward from the trigger gaurd than the TLR-1 making it less ergonomic than the TLR-1, or the surefire X300...
Just some more items for consideration...

I had the TLR-2? It had the laser & Light.  Great solid unit, but nothing compared to my new Viridian  The C5L model of theirs is absolutely awesome.  Green laser light which can be seen in the day, unlike red, 100 lumen LED, 30 or so different modes and tiny size.  Far smaller than the Streamlights and Surfires. Check it out. I paid $299 at my local store but I think it can be had on-line for $270.

In my opinion, the TLR-3, has plenty of light for a handgun, and can often be had for around $80, and may fit flush with the end of the Glock 19.  It even has enough light, in my opinion, to use on a pistol caliber carbine, which can be used at a much greater distance than a pistol.

I have two TRL-1's. I have one on my M4 and the other one gets switched between a G19 and a XD45. I have a older Surefire X200A and there is no comparison in brightness between it and the TRL-1. The TRL blows it away. Is there a way to upgrade a X200A?

I have a TLR-1 on my G19.

After about 15 shots during night-fire, the residue on the lens downgrades the brightness to a TLR-3 anyway.

If planned use is for concealed carry, I'd suggest the TLR-3. Much slimmer. The batteries are more expensive and obviously will get used faster though.

If planned use is for home defense, I'd suggest the TLR-1. Better light, and batts more commonly used.

The TLR3 doesn't fit the g19 very well.  It mounts too far forward and sticks out past the muzzle nearly as far as the TLR1.

TLR-3 works better with sub-compact weapons plus there is not alot of holster support for it yet.

i am considering the exact same thing. found this thread on a different board:

guess i'll have to palm one to really see. based on the pics alone, looks like you're not saving much length going w/ the 3, and the 1 is much brighter... may have just answered my own dilema.
