I just heard a detective on ID say that Teflon coated bullets are designed to defeat body armor. Is there any truth to this? Doesn't sound right to me. |

A myth brought about by the KTW bullets of the 70's and 80's. They were designed to penetrate barriers like car bodies and windshields. They used a solid brass, or steel, bullet that was coated in teflon, or alternatively, a kind of plastic, in order to protect the rifling of the firearm. They weren't very effective against body armor.

No problem.
Here is an auction for a full box in case anyone is interested. The price is absolutely insane IMO though. I have seen singles for $15 or less in the past, but have never bought one for my collection. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=146617773 Apparently they were made in solid copper as well. -Allen |
