What is the effective range for the CCI 22LR shotshell??

It is out of a MK 3 Ruger 5 1/2 handgun.

City chipmunk needs killin'.

Discharging a firearm in city limits may be against the law in your aria.

You may want to call animal control or trap the little bugger.

Other wise roughly 25 feet is max range for the CCI Shotshells if used on small game.

Not as far as you'd think. Beyond 15 feet, they really spread out.

I think it'd be touch to take a chipmunk with the .22LR shotshells.  You might be better off with a good pellet gun or use .22 shorts like the Speer CB rounds.

When I was a kid I used to shoot bees off of a big flower bush near my house using the .22 shotshells.  Depending on the range sometimes even the big bees could take a pellet and keep going.

Shotshells in a pistol will be about as loud as rimfire will get.

Shotshells in a pistol may not take a chipmonk past 8-10 feet

If you have to do it a cb cap will do a much better job

I would go with my bb gun instead. The shotshell has less range, lots more noise, and is likely not legal to discharge in your yard.

I got rid of 3 of the little furry creeps with my crossman last year. Get at least 650 fps for a solid kill from a BB.

I have used shot shell in my 5.5" mk3 and the spred is crazy. it will blow the front side off of a orange about 5 feet, doesnt blow out the back though. I wouldnt trust it to take anything down past 10 feet, maybe a small snake. it is ok to shoot but mostly pointlesss. a regular round will sufice much better. .

pretty useless imo.  Just use an air rifle or a cb round if discharge is illiegal in your local.

.22shotshells are pretty loud and weak.  I'd use them as a fly swatter if I lived alone.

You may as well dump the shotshell out into your hand and throw it at it.

Get a cheap bb gun.

Outstanding opportunity to justify a nice target grade pellet rifle.

I wouldn't even try the shotshell.. at best you will wound it and for revenge it will hide deep in your garage to expire.

My own informal testing with a 6 1/2" barrel and CCI .22 shot resulted in most pellets staying inside a 6" circle at 6 feet. If the rate of spread is consistent at roughly 1" per foot, at 10 yards the spread would be 30". The kill zone might be absent any hits at all. I've heard it said that using .22 shot is about effective as throwing a handful of sand at a critter. I've seen pics posted of dead rattlers shot with .22 shot shells, but a: the shooter was always well within six feet of the snake, b: the snake was relatively small - i.e., 2'-3', and c: snakes have awfully fragile skulls. Squirrels are made of tougher stuff. Not much, but still tougher.

I have killed 6-8" long rats with a 6 1/2" Single Six and CCI magnum shot, but even withing 5-6', it took a follow up shot.

+1

I went through 20 of them one day just screwing around shooting swallows.  10-15 foot max. Most required a follow up shot. Probably useless against a chipmunk  at anything over 10 foot. Get a decent BB gun that shoots sub sonic. some of the Newer high velocity one sounds about as loud as a 22.

I killed a smaller bird at about 50' from a .22 rifle using them. Definitely not optimal. Buy an air-gun. I have a .22 caliber air-rifle that I took jack-rabbits out to 50 yards with when I lived in south texas. Nothing fancy either, just a $80 550fps wal-mart bought airgun. I just knew how to use it. 1 pellet was usually all it took, and they rarely ran far at all. Hit them in the thoracic cavity and they ran out of oxygenated blood pretty fast.

Those rat shot loads are much loader than a pellet gun or Colibries.
