I was shooting my new 9mm AR and couple Beretta 92's and had a round that would not fully seat in either of the 92's. It was a Remington FMJ Green box UMC I think (the stuff the sell at Dicks) and after some inspection I found that the case was about 1mm too long I know from now on all my carry rounds will see the calipers before being loaded into mags.

I am not trying to say that bad Rem UMC is ok, but remember it is cheap ammo.
I won't buy UMC in .45ACP anymore for quality reasons, but I am buying .223 UMC (for lack of other options and the brass). Just treat UMC as though it were brass cased WOLF and you will be ok. |

Every self defense round you load into a carry mag should first be inserted into one of these. In your caliber, of course. http://www.dillonprecision.com/uimages/all_images/15166_m.jpg ..or remove the barrel and chamber the rounds with the barrel out of the gun, same difference. |

No, not really. Dropping it in your barrel, unless you've got a mark someone on it, won't tell you if it's too long to let the slide completely close, and it won't tell you if the bullet is seated too far out to fit properly in the magazine. The gauge does both. |
