I read the Defensive ammo FAQ above and was dissapointed to see Hydra-Shoks are seemingly sub par.

My dad ran 'em in his .45 exclusivley and I have done the same in my .40.

What can I get READILY that is a good choice since I need to replace my Fed. rounds for my USP 40 thats have good performance?

ETA: Federal is still saying their rounds meet FBI requirements, was the FAQ talkin' about High Shoks? There is a difference [confused]

HST

I think its the best right now..

Actually - no big deal. More than two people can have the same independent idea.

Check out www.ar15.com/content/page.html?id=237

It may not be clear specifically what the bullet differences are, but the HST is the newest, potentially best design. I didn't recommend them earlier because you mentioned easy availability. The HSTs are out there, but a little harder to find than the Gold Dots - hence I recommended the latter. Most "better" sporting goods stores carry the Gold Dots.

Does the P40HS1 have passed the FBI test?

I have few boxes here and would like to ensure they are not that bad, even if they are the old generation.

I don't know if they specifically pass the FBI test, but it's known with absolute certainty that they're poor performers against layered clothing (failure to expand).
