| Why doesn't someone make one? 350 grain, 800 fps would be sweet. I'd love to have that in a compact 1911 platform, and I wouldn't mind having only 5-6 shots! |
.50 GI was made specifically for the 1911 styled pistol by Guncrafter Industries, iirc that was their name, hence .50 G.I. Of course the pistol is like $2400 or $2700 so I personally do not see it going anywhere. |
For that kind of money I would rather have a Wilson in .45 ACP. |
| Yeah me too, or if I really want a .50 cal semi auto I'll just buy a Desert Eagle. They are running from 950-1100 around here. It's ridiculous what they are asking, in my opinion. It will be one of those that just go down in the history books and everyone forgets about. |

I would not knock the 50gi without trying it first. I own a Model-1 from Guncrafter and it is the best machined and finished, tightest, and most accurate 1911 I have owned in 35 years of pistol shooting, which includes a large number of colts, several accurized pistols, a few kimbers, and two Les Baer. Other than the excellent finish & materials and the awsome gaping bore, the gun looks like a regular run-of the mill 1911, however it is a highly accurized, precision piece. The high cost is equivalent to that of an accurized handfitted quality 1911, and based on its performance my Model-1 is in no way inferior to any accurized 1911 I have ever owned or shot. The ammo is expensive, however the brass can be reused multiple times and reloaded with readily available 50AE bullets. Because of the price I can understand this gun is not for everyone, and I have no idea if Guncrafters will be able to sell enough to survive. I personally like to wish prosperity to any american company that can produce a high quality item like this. Make no mistake, this is not your regular 1911 but a first class pistol, and without a question, on a higher level compared with any other out-of-the box Colts, Springfields, Wilsons, or Kimbers. Ah, and did I mention the gaping bore |
| I'm sure it's nice, and very well made. But that is way beyond what I would pay for that considering my personal opinion is that it won't be around. Which is a shame, they should consider making a lower priced model, as long as it does not sacrifice safety or quality of course. I would definitley get one. But in the mean time, I can get a 1911 that works great and like said above the .45 acp has plenty of stopping power and relatively cheap to shoot. But, still a cool idea though, I just wish it was cheaper. |
