It seems whenever I'm at Walmart or Academy I cannot find any 357 magnum in 50 or 100pks, at best I'll find some overpriced 20pk of defensive ammo.

Anything in particular going on with 357, is everyone pretty much just using 38+p so there the stores don't stock as much 357 now?

may simply be that the big box stores don't sell alot of it, so it doesn't get ordered.  Right now 9mm and 223/5.56 are hot items.  I never have trouble finding 357 at any of my LGS, however Walmart never has it, so I don't ever shop there.

I chronographed some Cor-bon 125gr JHPs that I bought a long time ago.  They were significantly weaker than the handloads I was developing.  The latter being the published starting loads.

Had heard someone claim that manufacturers were wimping out on their ammo, but to see that in a brand that had a reputation for higher velocities was rather startling.

I have a buddy that is in sourcing for academy. They're adjusting their buying to start carrying more .357.
I had this same question for him not to long ago.

Reloads for practice for sure, but Speer 135gr SB 357 appears to be impossible to find right now.

This!

You will also be amazed at how accurate your homeloads can be.

I reload .38spl and .357mag for ~$0.11-$0.13/round depending on the bullet I choose. However, you will find that no matter how "cheap" you try and get into reloading, you will constantly be buying little accessories and upgrading your set-up. It is part of the fun.
