I've had a RIA 1911 A1 GI now for about 2 years. After the last range outing, I noticed the mags wouldn't drop free. After a tear down at home, I found the sear spring rubbing the back of the mag.

So I ordered a Wilson spring kit. I've wanted to change the look of the gun, so I ordered a Wilson trigger, sear and hammer. Wilson match trigger,Wilson Combat Skeletonized Ultralight Hammer, and Wilson Combat Deluxe A-2 Sear.

Parts came in today. WOO HOO!

Trigger fit pretty good. A little up/down slop but not as bad as the factory trigger. Hammer fit good, or so I thought.....

I cant install the thumb safety with this hammer in. The back side of the hammer hits the grip safety.

What should I do? Id like to do the work myself. Its a range gun, so no need to hurry and fix it. Id like to try and use a smith as a last resort kinda thing.

Hey Mike,

1st I'd like to say that yes when you get match grade parts for your 1911 it makes a big difference, I would have gotten Wilson:s disconnecter as well....

Anyway to get a picture of your problem? I believe that I do understand, sounds like the hammer is too big or long at the thumb cocking piece..  I would contact Wilson's tech support (they are great) and find out if they have a hammer that will fit your application.... If you need instructions with the 1911 type weapon click here to download a great manual I just posted today...

Added:

I did the same with my Colt Officers and added the same except the hammer (no parkerized hammers) and more parts to her including the Crimson Trace grips...

Exactly, the hammer is hitting the grip safety. I cant believe I forgot the disconnector. Next order Ill get it.

I stopped by my local fun store and looked at a few 1911s that had the skeleton hammer. All of them had an extended/bevertail grip safety with a notch for the hammer. I really didn't want to change the GS. You think it would be ok to file it down and refinish?

Thanks for the help and Ill look into  those instructions.

Where they RIA's? I doubt it, this is a common issue with the RIA, this is why I said to contact Wilson they may have a solution.........

No they werent RIA. But even looking at the Wilson GS, they have notches for such hammer.

Wilson grip safety

"The top has a hammer pocket, which makes the gun more snag-free by allowing a commander or bobbed spur hammer to sit down in the beavertail while cocked."

this is what I saw on the other 1911s.
