I purchased a used Brolin Arms L45C. I understand they weren't around long. I have read the LIMITED info available on them... most of which says: "Don't know much about them." I have also read that they seemed to be either "very good & extremely accurate" or "terrible"... not much middle ground. Here's the thing... The pistol shoots great (IMO), sub 2" groups at 25 yards with the right ammo. It seems to feed anything I give it, of any weight from 165gr Hydroshok to 230gr WWB ball. I worked up a load of 4.5gr Bullseye w/ 200gr H&G 68 LSWC. Regardless of the ammo, after 30-40 rounds, I will occasionally get a round that 3/4 chambers (horizontal but slide still open approx 1/8"). I can "smack" it closed and all is well for several more (8-10 rounds). I thought maybe lube, but that doesn't SEEM to be the issue. I've noticed when cleaning that the chamber gets fouled at about 8 o'clock. Also when stripping, the slide is VERY tight about 3/4 of the way off. Seems it should just slide off like my other autos. The pistol has an aluminum? frame and a steel slide, with a bull barrel (no bushing). When it runs, it runs great... but this is making me nuts! This is my first 1911, so I really don't know what to make of it. It does not seem right. Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe recoil spring since I have no idea how many rounds are on it. I've put 500-750 through it. But even so that doesn't address the "sticky slide". I does NOT stick at all when assembled and cycled... only on disassembly pulling it off & putting it back on. |
It happens with all bullets AFTER 35+/- shots. I've decided that the gun heats up and the frame or slide (or both) swell. Like I think I said above it has a tight slide to frame fit. I've settled on this as the cause... because if I don't run through a box of ammo quickly (50 rnds in 10-15 min), and I don't leave it sit in the hot sun on the bench, the problem goes away. |
