Just picked up a new S&W M&P 45 for the nightstand gun, so far I am very pleased with the weapon, I think S&W did a great job on this weapon.

Due to it's intended role I also got a Streamlight TLR2 LED light/laser combo to use on the rail.

While I have had experience with laser on an AR and the Crimson Trace style on handguns in the past, but this is my first light/laser combo.

Well found the right key for the light to work with the M&P rail and mounted just fine, but there was no way I had the adjustment to regulate the laser with the sights.

Horizontal adjustment was fine, but when the laser ran out of elevation it was still about 6-8" low at 10 yards, simply no way to get the adjustment.

After looking at it very closely (and of corse double checking all of the mount keys) it seems that the light (or rail) is not parallel to the bore axis.

If you look at a M&P closely it looks as if the slide on all of them sit closer down on the frame at the rear than it does at the front, almost as if it squats at the rear. I assume this is for generous clearance at the front of the slide.

However this seems to cause the bore and the rail to be at a diverging angle which will not allow you to get the zero with the laser.

I called S&W, he kind of shrugged and said they never heard of an issue.

Called Streamlight and they were rather helpful, offered to have me send it in (most likely will).

Just wondering, anyone else had an issue in this combo.

Does it look to you that the bore axis and rail are not parallel?

Any feedback or experience with this will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

JH

I've only handled M&P45's but they all seem to have non-parallel frame to slide clearances front to back.  I never thought it would be an issue even with a flashlight but I never thought about a laser.  Streamlight has great customer service so hopefully they will realize the issue and make more adjustability in the TLR2 series.

Surely someone has experience with this gun and a laser/light combo.

I have not noticed any non-parallel frame to lide clearances front to back on my M&P .40 but will look at it better tonight.

Perhaps going with a standard TLR1 and a crimson tracer laser grip may be a better option.

Both the light and the laser will be easier to activate and the laser is closer to the bore line.

All of my frames have a slight droop towards the front of the dust cover but its something ive never been concerned about as i do not run rail mounted lasers, only white lights.
