I have a 4006, the "old model", and was wondering if anyone knows how I can add a rail to it, like the new 4006 TSW? I want the option to add a light or what-not. Any ideas? For other owners of 4006, what's your opinion of the gun? I've had mine for years, but simply haven't shot it much (it was a gift, not one I would have particularly purchased on my own) thanks Dan |

I also have the 4006. I am not sure about adding a rail though. You might be able to weld one on, but then that would just be ugly. The best thing I could think of is to buy a light the attaches to the trigger guard. I belive Cheaper Than Dirt! sells lights that attaches to the guard. I like my 4006 - I have shot about 20k - 25k rounds through it and never had any major problems with it. This is my first handgun I ever owned/purchased (I have others now) but still always go back to this one. I do wish it had the rail but wishing doesn't make it any better - I like the way it functions and never jams. Nice to have a gun that is reliable! |

I don't know about adding a rail but my opinion of the gun is pretty varied. My 4006 was the first handgun that I bought the day after I turned 21 so I have a really strong conection with it and will never part with it. That being said I hate to say that it's accuracy is less than desireable and the trigger is just awful (it may just be my gun). I've had quite a few people shoot it and they all tend to agree with me on those points. I've often thought about sending it into S & W's perfomance shop to have it worked on but I've always been a little too short on cash to justify it. Even with those complaints I still love shooting it and even carried it concealed for 2 years before I got my Glock 23 which I shoot way better. Of course this is just my $.02. Karl |
| Nother 4006 owner. Gotta agree, its not very accurate. It may be just me but I tighted my group by switching from 165gr to 180 gr. Still not as accurate as I would like but its at least on the paper now. hock.gif |
Have you tried Bar-Sto or Nowlin? They seem to have barrels for damn near everything it seems. |
No, I haven't looked into barrels besides S&W performance center. Do you have a link for them? I'm really POed @ BirchwoodCasey. I used their rust and blue remover to remove some rust spots on my 4006 and it changed the color of the slide! I have to take it to a smith to have it repaired. |

It's stainless - but doesn't mean it won't rust. It had small rust pockets -and I presume it came from being in a rug bag for too long, or from some one with real acidic hand sweat handling it. Whatever the case it rust in small areas. Today I even found small rust pockets on the outside of my mags! WTF?!?! I talked with the gunsmith and he gave me some stuff he thinks will help it. I'm gonna spend most of a night (prob Saturday) working with it to get it to clean, but it's better than the $125 refinish job he quoted. |
