I am in the market for a carry .45 and i dont want a glock.... i was turned on the the mp at the range the other day and it brought me here.  I was looking at buds gun shop and they have one and the model is 109308, and i went to smiths website and looked it up and it said that it had no thumb safety, which is what i want. but my questions is.....does this model have the mag disconnect? i dont want the mag disconnect.  if anyone has any ideas or insight please let me know thanks

I would like to know how to tell this too.  I have the same gun, also got mine from Buds, but have no idea if it has the magazine diconnect or how to tell without going to the range.

The page won't load for me right now; but go to smithandwesson.com and go to the list of Non LEO M&P pistols.

They will display all the model numbers for each pistol so you'll be able to determine the correct model # for the exact pistol with the features you want, or don't want.

I'm a dumbass. I should have just checked the owners manual.  Mine (the same model you are looking at) does not have the magazine disconnect.

Also mine has a caution on the slide that says it is capable of firing without the magazine.

You can tell if the gun has a magazine disconnect by taking the magazine out of the gun, locking the slide back, and looking into the mag well. If there's a little metal piece sticking out then you have one, if not, you don't. Removing the disconnect is pretty easy, but you'll need the spring from a Bic pen or similar to make sure the sear disconnect stays in place.

I seem to be unable to find the link which shows all the different M&P model numbers and the breakdown of features, so...

Or just remove the magazine from the gun, rack the slide, and see if it dry fires.

I don't know about you, but I can't read.

The lettering on mine is that nice subdued color instead of bright white though, so at least it wins there.
