speak to me of the grip.... how would it compare to a wilson KZ-45?
I only ask cause that was made for a ten round mag too and fit my hand well. Other non single stack 45's were always too big. thanks! |
| I haven't seen the Wilson yet, but to me, the M & P felt damn good. I compared it along side of an XD, and thought the Smith felt a lot better. A friend of mine bought the 40cal version, and loves it. The M&P is on my wish list, and after I get a few other things, I am planning on getting one. |
|
I own the M&P 45, 21SF, 1911 and XD45. To me the winner is the M&P 45, it is a super comfortable shooting .45 pistol. The Glock is a close second, more accurate and just as soft to shoot but the ergonomics are not quite there. The 1911 is artwork but much more fatiguing to shoot. The XD45 just plain sucks, the trigger feels like a gas pedal with about as much travel, cycles more harsh than the M&P and the Glock and has mediocre accuracy.
Just my 2 cents. |

Quoted: I'm thinking of picking up an M&P 45. But I don't want any thumb safety nonsense. I want a full sized pistol. Are there various models in the Full Sized 45? Yes. The full size M&P 45 can be had with or with a thumb safety, with and without the mag disconnect, and with and without night sights. I bought mine without a thumb safety, without the mag disconnect, and with night sights. |

I haven't bought a pistol in too long and the texture on my G22 is so worn down it feels like a bar of soap.

Even with the medium option, they feel smaller than a Beretta 92. |

Removing the thumb safety was a piece of cake. What's the scoop on this? Is there a mechanical difference in the two models? The thumb safety is a drop in part which sits below the sear housing block. All it does is rotate a piece of metal to block the movement of the trigger bar. To remove it you knock out the rear roll pin, carefully lift the block out, take out the thumb safe unit, and put things back together. Then contact S&W customer service and they'll send you some frame fillers for free. They're out for the holidays until the 4th, though. |

Cool. Thanks. I'll just try to find one without.
I saw them at Bass Pro Shop, and I was surprise to see how compact even the full sized 45 looked. Bass Pro wants $619 for the basic dot sight model. I'd guess that means you can get it for about $550 at a regular gun shop? |

I wish I knew anyone with any version of the M&P. I've waited on the sidelines to make sure the pistol has some staying power.... All the reviews of the 45 seem to be positive. I'm probably going to get one. I've got a full size 45 and 9mm. shot at least a couple of thousand rounds through both. NEVER a problem with either one. Love the way they shoot and feel. Did my own trigger job and stippling on them. My SA TRP just sits in the safe now.

As an update, I got mine and I'm impressed.
great trigger (compared to other striker fired guns) bigger than the measurements suggest, grip-wise. factory stipling is cosmetic and doesn't aid purchase at all. ......thought it would be grippier. happy I didn't get the thumb safety. I like the concept, and love it on 1911's, but feel that my thumb needs to find its own place on the MandP. |

I'm going to have to get a fobus or something basic to hold me over. 25$ I got mine from blackhawk (won't buy from CTD) and it's black not grey. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/59006-33.html

Quoted: I'm going to have to get a fobus or something basic to hold me over. Several companies make holsters, but it's not as popular as Glock (yet). I'm not a huge fan of the Serpa, but I did get one (from MidwayUSA I think) for my M&P 9 so that I could have a retention holster without breaking the bank. My M&P 9 is not generally one of my concealed carry guns, but I do sometimes open carry it and therefore want positive retention (sometimes one must carry open to comply with VA's weird restaurant law). I like the M&P 45 too. My brother has one we shoot. |

Quoted:
Break down your gun and take a look at the striker where it protrudes through the slide. Is it mostly black, or is it all silver? If it's all silver it's a 3rd generation striker. If it's black it's a 2nd generation striker. I'll check tonight. I've already been dry firing the piss out of this thing. It figures that S&W would have overlooked the notion that people dry fire practice on their striker fired guns.
