Hi All,

As you will be able to tell from this post, I'm FAR from a S&W auto expert. I have two local shops, one with a CS45 (blued) for $500, and one with a pre-rail 4513TSW for $500.

I've looked around, but can't find much information on either pistol. What are the major differences in these guns, when were they made? Is either of these a better deal. I'm finding myself wanting one of the compact S&W .45s.

Thanks very much for any/all information!

For me, the Chief Special's felt like I was holding a 2x4 in my hands, i.e. absolutely NO ergonomics at all.

Anything with "TSW" in the model will be a good bit smoother gun versus its brothern models. Better fitting, better springs, etc. all add up to a bit better gun.

Hope this helps!

I bought a 4553 TSW a few weeks ago and am very impressed with it.  A very knowledgeable S&W guy told me the TSW's are the closest thing you can get to a Performance Center auto without actually buying a Performance Center auto.

Here's mine.  It's quickly taken over the EDC spot .  I wouldn't hesitate to buy another TSW marked S&W auto.

Have you held them yet?

Unless the CS45 fit you better I would take the TSW as those pre-rail models are extremely hard to find.  You also gain a 1/2" of barrel with the TSW.
