My buddy has a 629 with 8 3/8 in barrel i believe, never fired he wants to sell, I want to buy it cause i think he should have it and i would resell to him when he wants to buy it again. My question is when i have it would it greatly decrease the value to shoot it?

Sounds like the deal is a loan with collateral, so it would be up to your buddy to say if it's ok to shoot it. That said, more particulars on the gun would greatly help. Some older models are relatively rare, and if it is truly "unfired" it would devalue it some.
Look on the frame under the yoke and see what the dash number is, that will help for a determination. Pics would help alot.

BTW, most guns from the S&W factory have been test fired with 3 cartridges, and you'll see the carbon on the cylinder face. "Unfired" is one of those terms that seems to have different meanings to different folks.
