I have heard that the M&P is the best S&W auto in years, and I have also heard it's nothing more than a revamped Sigma. Tell the truth. I know Sigma's have a hard trigger pull, and not much can be done with them ( reasonably anyway).
Thanks

M&P's kick ass!  I have 3.  The trigger smooths out after 400 rounds or you can have a trig job done on it.

I'm a 1911 guy and this is the only "plastic" gun I own, I hate Glocks. Sold mine and bought more M&P's.

Thanks, I like Glocks, but want to expand the scope of my handguns. I bought a Sigma once, it was okay, but I didn't really like the trigger, so I sold it.

Have handled both alot and shot both (own an M&P), the MP is very different from the sigma.  The trigger is very different, ie better alot better.  The MP is a far superior firearm, if it feels good in your hand buy it you wont be sorry.

Personally, I think MP's took the route that Glock did not - ergonomics.  I love my glock 19 but the M&P's sure feel nicein the hand.  From what I've seen they hold up pretty well too (ToddG's 60k round test through his MP9).

I love my M&P 45...
I've had mine since march and have 500rds through it with no issues. It's ergonomic, accurate, and light recoiling. The trigger pull isn't bad.. it was probably 6.5lbs at first,  but lightened up after  2-300 rounds.

There are a number of falsehoods out there about S&W pistols.

The 3rd generation S&W pistols are, in general, very good handguns...especially the steel framed ones. They aren't sexy, but they work.

The Sigma was a piss poor attempt at a Glock. The SW99 was a crappy handgun.

The M&P is a completely new weapon designed around the idea of making the striker-fired polymer pistol better than Glock did. By all reports it succeeds at that. I've heard Ken Hackathorn call the M&P the "pistol of the future" with my own ears. It's serving very well in a number of police agencies that have adopted it. It's in the running for some federal LE pistol contracts. It was designed with the input of genuine experts and it's been refined with the input of knowledgeable end users.

The Sigma was by most accounts that I have heard, a piece of crap.
The idea that is still kicking around in corners of the internet that the M&P is just a re-hash of the SIGMA is BS and seems to have originated from the segment of the glock crowd that thinks that the only good gun ever made was a glock.  I have used both and find the M&P to be way better for me.  (for all the reasons mentioned above)  The SIGMA = M&P dogma has been debunked by the facts, and the M&P has turned out to be a very good polymer gun that is quite competitive if not superior to the glock.  You should try to find a way to test out both before you buy.  That way you can make up your own mind.

You should always try a handgun before you buy it. I didn't and now I am stuck with my MP45.
I am extremely happy with how the pistols handles and feels.

I went on a search for a glock 26 or glock 27.I found a 27 locally and next to it was a M&P 40c for the same price $499
I held both and by all means the M&P is a much better firearm in terms of ergonomics. It feels very very very nice in the hand

The M&P is a totally new design; there is not even 1 single part that is interchangeable between the Sigma and the M&P.

Totally new?
This trigger concept looks familiar....

Yeah I noticed the polymer frame too; same concept there as well, but neither part is interchangeable between both pistols nor are any of the other parts.

my department issues the M&P.40, egronomics are great, shoots dead on, the only minor gripe I have about it is the trigger reset seem longer than that of the glocks, but that is a matter of preference.  It an excellent gun.

My M&P .40 is the first polymer pistol I've owned. I've always been a 1911 man. I totally love the M&P. I've fired other ones (XD, Sig, HK, etc.) but none feel just right like this one does. The trigger does improve noticably after a few hundred rounds.

I am not a glock fan.  I bought an MP40c about a year and half ago , and I love it. I have had no issues at all with it.

Trigger reset can be reduced a bunch.
