| Got to handle one today, can't wait to shoot it. I am a self confessed Glockaholic but that little bastard is SWEET. |
|
I too am a Glockaholic and I bought a M&P .45 4" FDE this morning after playing with the fat and short G30 and the XD. I wish glock had a .45 in this frame size and fit. It feels just like my G19 size wise and I was instantly smitten with it. I can't wait to blaze through a few hundred rounds Monday. I also handled a SIG 220 and got an equally solid hard on but I decided to wait untilI return stateside to give myself a little time with the M&P. I had to force myself out of the store before I bought up half the place. |
| Dr.Glock revolutionized the industry in 1986, he brought unthinkable things to the marketplace. The problem is that there has been no evolution and in my mind, and more importantly hand, the M&P is the evolutionary step of the Glock that the company never took. Too Bad. My Compact is waiting for me at my FFL back home along with a case of Ball and a half case of 230 gr SXT. |
Full size 4.5" bbl and 10 rounds Mid size 4"bbl and 10 rds compact 3.5"bbl and 8 rds. |
Thanks, the compact sounds like what I want. I couldn't find it on Smith's website. |
Fixed it for ya. The M&P45c has a 4" barrel NOT 3.5". Same slide as the Mid-Sized, but with a shorter 8rd. frame/magazine capacity. |
The Mid size is only OL 1/4" shorter than full size ? Not much of a size difference.
|
Im not sure those numbers are accurate. The fullsize and the midsize share the same identical frame, but the midzie has a 1/2" shorter barrel. How can it possibly only add up to a 1/4" difference of length? ![]() If I swap the slide from my compact (which is identical to the slide on the midsize) onto my fullsized 45's frame, it is identical to the midsized's overall dimensions. I measure a difference of just over 1/2" which is accounted for by the difference in the barrel/slide length. |
Only quoting info from S&W site. ![]() |
Has anyone measured overall length of the full size and mid size? |
Personally, I wouldnt want any .45ACP pistol with a barrel length below 4" due to negative effects on velocity, and consequently bullet performance. The barrel length doesnt make much of a difference in terms of concealment at all when you are carrying it in a quality IWB holster. The grip is the limiting factor when it come to concealment, and S&W got it perfect with the 45c. |
Is end of the barrel exposed, or do you just have extra room at the end with it? I guess the outer dimensions of the slide are the same between the 40/45/45c? |
|
No the barrel is not exposed, the kydex extends about 1/2" past the end of the 45c's 4" barrel. Not the same dimensions, but similar enough to fit into the same hybrid holster, yes. Because this holster is a "hybrid" (kydex/leather) there is enough "give" in the leather to allow the 45 to fit in it snugly. A 100% kydex holster made specifically for the M&P9/40 may or may not allow the larger 45's to fit depending on how much of a precision fit is molded into the holster. CompTac makes a slide version of their Minotaur MTac holster which is open on the bottom to allow the different length slides of the same caliber models to fit into the same holster. Hope this helps! |

The S&W site specifications 4.5 inch barrel pistol has a OL of 7.75 inches. 4.0 inch barrel pistol has a OL of 7.50 inches. Where did the other .25 inches go? Shouldn't the 4 inch pistol have a OL of 7.25 inches? The barrel is .50 inches shorter. A half an inch is not very much |--------| about that much on my screen. ![]() I have a full size I like a lot. The lower is the same as the full size. Is 1/2 an inch that much of a difference to you? |
| Got it on Tuesday, trying to get used to the way it feels. I've been carrying Glocks professionally since 1990 and this is just...different. I had to break out the dremel and relieve the web under the trigger guard to undercut it and smooth out some VERY sharp edges. It allows my hand to choke up a little more. Trigger time on Saturday. |
I was thinking mid-size when I posted. Full size 4.5 inch barrel 10 rounds. Mid size 4.0 inch barrel 10 rounds. Compact 4.0 inch barrel 8 rounds. Have not seen one. is it 8 rounds in a single stack Mag. or 8 rounds in a double stack mag? It must be eight 8 rounds in a double stack mag. Also every frame measurement is the same in all three except height. Full and Mid with mag. 5.40 inches Compact with mag. 5.085 inches. .315 inch difference. |
Let me drag the G19 out... Rough estimate... M&P 1/4 inch longer, height nearly equal, widlt M&P looks to be maybe 1/8 of an inch thicker. That is just eyeballing it. |

Question guys....... Does the compact point the same as the full size? I know at least one of you guys has both. I want to be sure the compact doesn't use a different shaped insert in the back strap and change the feel of the gun. The full size point just about perfect for me with the back strap insert they install at the factory. I haven't been able to get my hands on a compact yet and am seriously considering ordering one. |
|
Mine showed up today. (Thread a few topics down) It points the same as the midsized 40 and fullsized 40 I played with a couple weeks ago. I put a small grip insert on mine (though mid and full do not change anything in regards to POA) and it points just as well, as the 1911 I compared it with. My range report will show up this weekend, unless I get too antsy and run out one day after work this week. |
call these guys and ask |
