A friend of mine is going through an ugly divorce and needs to prove that he bought his Model 29 before he got married so his soon to be ex can't take it. Where can I go to check the serial number for date of mfg. for him? Thanks

Post a piece of it here and someone will chime in.  Or get a copy of Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson.  Or call Smith, I think they will give you the born on date.  None of which will help your friend.  Being built on such and such a date doesn't mean he owned it on or about that date.  He'll need reciept from purchase.  Don't ask me how I know............

I guess he's basically trying to show that it was at least mfg. before he got married, his lawer thinks it will help. If it was mfg. after he got married , he wouldn't hve an argument at all. Thanks

Unless his wife has a current list of what guns he owns, he sold it a few months/years ago.

Date of manufacture probably isn't going to help him much. That doesn't prove ownership prior to date xxx. He needs the original receipt. (which has already been covered by a previous poster).
