should be easy to find one around $500 at a gun show or reasonable gun store

I paid $518 plus tax for my M&P45 with Trijicons (and no manual or magazine safety) in North Carolina.

I found mine used. $425 shipped with 4 mags, thumb safety no mag disco........keep shopping

I paid $600 for mine. However I accepted the higher price for the oppertunity to actually handle the gun and check out the trigger on it.
