Can anyone advise as to why my 6904 will not go into full battery? The slide stays retracted about a 1/2". With a slight tap, the slide goes forward and bang. Ejects spent cases fine, I'm using factory magazines and factory ammo.  Is it: 1)lubrication, 2) recoil spring, 3) something eles?

Is the chamber clean?

Sounds to me like the recoil spring is weak. Clean the hell out of it and lube it really good and replace the recoil with a new one. See if that does the trick. How many rounds are through it?

I cleaned it when I got it. From what I can see, not many rounds were put through it. I bet it's the recoil spring.

Call S&W, they will probably send you one or two recoil springs for free. They sent me two firing pin springs for free for a used 6904.

If the extractor drags on the groove on the cartidge case it will cause exactly that
problem. I had a 4013 that did that and I polished the extractor with a small
arkansas stone. Don't use anything that would remove a lot of metal.
