What is the difference between the 640 and the 649?  I can't see anything except the 649 being a few dollars cheaper.

649 is satin stainless steel, 640 has an optional 3" bbl, 649 has an optional 2" bbl in addition to the 2-1/8" bbl.

640 was introduced in 1991, 649 in 1986.

The BIG thing missed was the 649 is SA/DA (exposed/shrouded hammer)----the 640 is double action only(concealed hammer)

They're BOTH stainless, 5 shot J-frames------ the only meaningful DIFFERENCE is listed in my first post.
