| Thinking about buying a 686. Anyone out there have one? Like it, love it, hate it or anything in between? |
Thanks, Rangie. I'm kind of like you; I think the extra weight on the 686 barrel may be just that - extra weight. |
Not at all, IMO. Doing double taps is a lot better with even an extra ounce or two on a 2-1/2" with .357 ammo regarding tolerant accuracy. If a lug will allow me to drop from (say, for example) a 6" group to a 4", or even a 3" group doing quick double taps @ 5-7 feet, that's worth it in my opinion. I had a snubbie Model 19 I sold (like a dumbass |

686 4" was my first handgun. This was way back when S&W Revolvers still came with Walnut Grips and the firing pin was still on the hammer. It was a great shooter. Regretably I ended up having to sell it about 12 years ago when I was in some hard times. I still haven't replaced it but about 3 years ago I did happen upon an Un-fired 686 6" with the Hogue grips, original box and papers, Uncle Mikes shoulder rig, 4 speed loaders with pouches and a couple of boxes of Federal Hydor Shok for $400 a few years ago. It's still in the safe Un-fired. |
Gah ![]() I hate those internal locks and the hollowed out triggers they started using in the early 90's. |

Depends- if it is going to be carried alot and shot less, then the K frames (19's & 66's) are the way to go. the couple of ounces is noticable after hanging off the belt all day. But, if its going to be a range gun or have a steady diet of heavy mag. loads I would go with the L frames I have several of both and love them all |
