I was just at Cabelas and saw the shield with a ported barrel and fiber optic sights.
And it was only $50 more. There isn't a lot out there on the shield performance series yet. Curious if anyone here has any experience with it yet. |

We've had a couple threads on this. I believe the gun was made for IDPA "backup gun" series for shooters like Julie Golob. Personally I'm not a fan or ported guns. If you like the sights and don't mind the ports, $50 seems like a bargain. From what I hear too the trigger has been improved but I didn't notice any difference over mine from dry firing.
** I have not shot one but handled one at cabelas as well. (shot ported glocks though) |

I just recently traded my .40 shield for the new performance version in .40.
Have to say that I REALLY enjoyed shooting it. I ran through 100 reloads after buying it. Trigger is smoother, resulting in less barrel movement from trigger pulls. My groupings at 10 yards dropped a very noticeable difference. The sights work extremely well and very easy to see. Not to also mention the ported barrel and slide made a very noticeable recoil difference too. Pretty sure they made some small differences to the outside. It felt better in my hand and easier to control. Fast firing resulted in very good results. 4-6" groupings firing as fast as I could get back on target. I did that 3 times with the 7 round mag with same results. Single shot rivaled my Glock 22. Pretty sure after the 100 rounds I only had 2-3 flyers. Also it ate every round effortlessly. Not a single FTF or FTE. I've been reloading for a few years so the rounds I make are pretty dang universal from gun to gun. Can't remember the last hang up I've had with my .40 rounds. Need to try some Winchester white box. My other shield hated those for the first few hundred rounds. |
