I have a 686 no dash that has not had the recall work done.  It also has some endshake and I have not shot it recently due to this.  Should I have S&W fix the "recall issue" and at the same time upgrade to a 7 shot cylinder?  Does anyone know how much they charge for this?  Since they would be paying for shipping that will save me $70 bucks.

Have the update but forget the switch to a 7 shot cylinder.

Sell it to get a 7 shot, save the classic 6 shot for the folks who like them.

I dont know if S&W would even convert a 6 shot to 7 shot ... the hand and other parts may not be compatible.

Call S&W and ask.

I would at minimum, have the recall work done.

I had a gunsmith named Andy Horvath cut my 686-2 6" to 5", and convert it from 6 to 7 shot.

I forget the price, but it was reasonable, and I'm very happy with his work.

( I bought the 7 shot cylinder and hand from S&W parts dept, I think the cylinder was about $100 )

He's old school, and doesn't have a website...

That's a pretty sweet 5".  Though I wonder what kind of work was involved since the S&W stamp on the side of the barrel is still centered.  At least for me, in both L and N frames the 6" full lug barrel is just a bit too front heavy and the 4" is a bit light...5" is perfect.
