| I have one of these that has been in the family for a long time. I today was using the revolver to work on my trigger discipline and noticed the trigger every once in awhile becomes harder to pull and hangs up about halfway. The blue was really bad on this piece and I had it parkerized about a year ago. I haven't experienced any problems till today. To be honest though I never really used it to work on my trigger pull, just plinking. So I know I need to get it looked at. My question is what options do I have for getting in the end an all around better trigger too. Different spring etc..Thank you. |

Lighter springs might result in a lighter/better trigger pull but with rimfires you run the risk of going too light & having misfires. Given your description of the gun & its issue(s), *I* would first opt for a thorough cleaning of its internals. Could be some scrap metal got inside, could be something else. Only way to know for certain is to pull the sideplate off & have a good cleaning inside.
For this type of work, *I* would send it to S&W. They'll have all the parts on hand should any be needed. Plus it's a peace of mind to know that the factory trained guys are the ones working on the gun. My .o2 |

Before shipping it off I would give the old girl a general cleaning . Your issue could be grunge built up on the face of the cylinder which is then dragging on the rear of the barrel.
While you are at it polish the recoil shield (rear face of the frame ) where the back of the shells will drag as the cylinder turns. Here is the test for cylinder drag. Load the gun , pull the hammer back slightly then try to spin the cylinder . Any drag that you might feel here is something you would be normally be overcoming with your trigger finger so it should be fairly smooth . Needs to be loaded because the cylinder might be dragging on the rear of the shells . Another thing to check is if the shells are sitting down flush in the chambers . at issue is dirt or parkerise where it shouldn't be Because the gun is loaded this is something ( partially pulling the hammer back) that should only be done on the shooting range. |
