Hey Everyone,

I recently bought a Used MP45 full size. It came with 6 mags and bought 3 14 round mags. Here's the problem: I put a loaded mag into gun, its locked nice and tight, I pull the slide back and a round is chambered. I fire the gun, it fires, the slide cycles, and the mag drops out. no round is cycled. I shot it and another shooting buddy shot it, same thing. I tried it with a full mag, I tried it with a mag that has half filled, and a mag with 2 rounds. same thing
Any thoughts?

thanks,
Chris

I would guess there is an issue with your mag catch. Contact S&W, they will take care of it.

I'd just contact S&W about it. Does it happen with the flush fit mags, extended mags or all 9 of them?

Sounds like something wrong with the magazine lock/release internally.  I have a mid sized M&P .45ACP with approximately 1300 rounds through her with not one problem.  I would contact S&W and see what they say.

Some of the early 9mms and .40's had issues with magazines dropping when fired (confirmed via 65 9mm's as used in our Police Academy) but new mag catches seem to have resolved the problem and no more drops for a good while now. Never seen or heard of a .45 having that problem, however. Not being a snob, but given that this is a gun new to you, are you sure you are not bumping the mag catch with your hand / grip?

I appreciate the replies. I considered my fat fingers pushing the mag release button as well. That's why I had another person shoot it. We both moved our thumbs and middle fingers as far away from the release as possible. Same thing happened to both of us. As far as the mags go, it was both flush fit and extended.

I took the gun back to local gun store where I purchased it. Their gunsmith said he believed it was a mag catch spring issue. So this was sent back to SW.

I knew there were some issues with the 9 and 40 when they first came out. I was just wondering if there were any reported issues with the 45. I guess I am the lucky one!

Once again, thanks for all the replies.

It should be a relatively quick and easy fix. Someone may have switched the mag catch to the other side and was too enthusiastic with depressing the spring. Or it was just weak. Smith will fix it for you.
