I picked up a used S&W model #13 at the gun show today. To those not familiar with this model, it's a fixed sight bull barrel model #10 looking gun that's a .357.
Anway, when shooting it I shot a box of PMC .38, and a box of PMC .357. The .38 shot fine, but out of the .357, probably 10 out of the box of 50 failed to fire; it appeared that the hammer wasn't hitting the primer hard enough.
I suppose there's a difference between .38 and .357 primers, but I don't reload so I'm not sure.
Does anybody reading this have an answer why the gun ignites .38 but not .357?
I'm guessing it needs a new hammer spring? It locks up fine, and other than the beat up holster look, it seems OK. I only gave $200 for it, so if I have to invest a little in it for a tackle box/camping gun I should still be OK.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
