I am looking for a compact. I have narrowed it down to the M&P9C or the shie;d in 9mm. I am left handed and I plan on using it for CCW when I am out of state.I have been on here reading thread after thread and looking at all the pics and I think its actually confusing me more. Also I have no idea what a good price for one is the local gun shop has a 45c for over 600 bucks.

Fair pricing in my area, 30 miles outside of st.Louis is just over 400 on the sheid and just under 500 on the compact.
I don't recall there being a difference in price between the 9/40 and the 45 but to be honest I never really looked at the 45.

I can't speak for the M&P9C but I recently got a shield 40 and love it.

I don't think you'll like the Shield as a lefty.

Not to hijack your thread Tango, but I too, am a lefty and this gun is on my top 3 for a next purchase.  Why wouldn't we like the Shield as a lefty?  I've read a ton of reviews and don't remember seeing any about not liking it if you're a lefty.

Have the 9FS, 9c and the Shield 9.  Love all, but if one had to go (which it doesn't) it would be the 9c.  The FS is for home defense and SHTF.  The Shield is to carry off-duty.  Carried the 9c before the shield, and the Shield is simply much easier to carry.  That little bit of thickness makes a big difference for me, YMMV.  Shield simply disappears, while the 9c didn't.  Not the 9c was hard to carry, the Shield is just much easier.

That is this righty's take.  The safety would probably bother me as a lefty, as it would be difficult to take off in a hurry.  Training issue, or just carry it off safe I guess.  The detent is very solid on the Shield safety, and would probably not engage accidentally, but the gun doesn't seem to me to be lefty friendly.  As I said,  not a lefty, so that is just an opinion.

Strictly a left side safety.

Plus the slide release is only on the left side, too.

I'm a lefty and the Shield9 is my daily carry.  I'm used to being a lefty in a world made for righties.

So as a fellow lefty, would you recommend it?

I'm so used to right handed guns that I use the same techniques with my ambi  M&P9c.  (I've gotten pretty good at hitting the slide release with my trigger finger, for instance. )  What attracted me to the Shield is the M&P platform in a thinner, lighter package, plus still being a 9mm.

Of course, the best handgun for a lefty is the H&K P7.  It's just to darn heavy in today's polymer world.  I'd be afraid to see what a polymer version of the P7 would ultimately cost, but man, that would be one hell of a great gun!

That's not a deal.  It's close to market though.

I paid $439 for mine, and I've seen them in stores for $449-469.  Someone online is probably selling at a bare markup...and if you're LEO, you can really get a good price.

There's a police supply store close to my work and they sell them for $324 to LEO (which is allegedly S&W's invoice cost on that gun)

Check Gun broker, $450+ is the going rate, and lot of time shipping is more. I figure sales tax here runs me as much as a transfer so it's a wash.

As to PD pricing,  I've seen them listed at PD around that but not in stock.  My order is at $392 from a site sponsor,  so $450 doesn't sound out of line
