So I recently (about a month ago) purchased a NIB M&P9c w/o magazine safety or thumb safety, for CCW purposes. I've put about 400 rounds through it, with one failure to feed on literally the second round (which I'm assuming to be a standard break-in hiccup), and two failures to fire with dented primers on consecutive rounds, most likely due to the crappy 115gr FMJ brown bear I've been shooting. Both of those issues I'm okay with since its been fine with all the carry ammo I've tested on it. However, the slide stop is extremely difficult to use on both sides, and it was somewhat difficult at first to insert a magazine, but I've practiced reloading enough to get used to slamming them in with force. My question is, should I call S&W and possibly send it back, or put a couple hundred more rounds through it to see if it breaks in some more?

The full magazine will seat easily enough after the mag's spring breaks in a bit.

The slide release / stop / whatever the anal peeps want to call it.... should smooth out the more you use it.

My M&P 9c was like you described so I disassmbled and filed the stop touched the slide with a fine file.  Maybe 10 strokes... Reasembled and tested.  I repeated the sequence maybe... 3-5 times?  It smoothed out fine.

The whole file and test processed took maybe 15 minutes.

Works fine now.

Sorry, I'm kind of a newb when it comes to pistols in general and especially this one since its pretty new to me, what part of the slide stop should I file? I can see a bit of wear on the part where it apparently holds the slide back, is that it?

Edit: I am left-handed, it is the most difficult to send the slide home when using it left handed. Its relatively easier to do it right-handed.

I'm a lefty too.

I think you have it right and I missed a word in my post that describes the location of using the file...

Lock the slide back and look at the spot where the stop / lock is touching the slide.  That is the spot you will want to smooth out.

Again take your time.  It's easy enough to reassemble and test after each set of file strokes.

My file was really, really fine so that made it easier to avoid going too far.

Just to throw in my two cents but I had the same problem with mine M&P9c and used a file on the slide stop as well. Works much better now.

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate it. I just put another 200 rounds through it today, it's loosening up some more but I'll definitely give it a few passes with a fine grit file once I get home.
