I just purchased a Smith and Wesson .44 Mag 29-3 nickel plated for $450. What is the going price? What does the AVD in the serial number "AVD17**" mean? When was this gun made? Sorry, I mostly have auto's, but I'm turning to revolvers lately.

You bought a very nice gun at a great price. The AVD serial number indicates that it was made in 1987, the -3 change is for the endurance package. A very nice gun, congratulations.
