I am looking at a Model 4003tswfor about $250, I have never fired one, and have never owned a Smitty auto. I have some of thier revolvers and adore htem, but have heard some bad things about thier autos. Also, the gun is a police turn in, and bears stamps from the Atlanta Police Department, and is in very good condition inside and out. Any comments?

Price is about right, maybe even a bit to your side. The negative side to Smith autos is they feel like holding a 2x4, i.e. there's no ergonomics. They've gotten a bit better thru the years but I'd say you can sell the gun for $300 if you don't like it.

Thanks, I was able to handle it, and it felt OK, nothing to write home about but n=othing special either. I think I will pick it up this coming week if htings go well. I guess even if I don't like it I will only be out slightly more than I would for a cheapo LLama.

If you put checkered Hogue grips on a S&W it feels like a P38 in your hand. Has anyone ever complained about the feel of a Walter P38 in their hand? If so, I haven't heard or seen it. You are buying a very good pistol at a great price. Regards, Richard:D
