i have an m&p 9mm full sized and i am having problems with auto forwarding. Anyone know how to fix it, i would like the gun to stay in slide lock all the time. I have tried changing the angle of my mag inserts and how hard i put the mags in the gun but over all it is to inconsistent.

Not being familiar with 'auto forwarding' I will assume that the slide is going into battery when you insert a magazine?

I was told it was designed to do so. To decrease reload times. Only fix I could see would be a stronger spring on the slide release, maybe?

The M&P wasn't specifically designed to release the slide after a magazine insertion, but it is a byproduct of a forceful reload. Many Glocks do the same thing. There's not much you can do about it except incorporate it into your training. I've learned to work with it and even appreciate it.

Many many handguns do it, my glocks do it, my m&ps do it, my old CZ did it, every M9 I have ever shot does it randomly.  The slide catch/stop basically just slips down from the force of the magazine being inserted rattling the gun and lets the slide spring forward - if you want to ensure it doesn't do this, the easiest way is to leave your thumb right there against the slide stop as you insert the magazine.

Add H&K USP to the list.

Not uncommon at all.

To be fair, he may have misread previous posts that indicated such.

In the past, I have jokingly referred to the auto-forwarding as a "feature" when people start asking what's wrong with their new M&Ps.

"auto forwarding" is a made-up term and should be killed before it goes any further and causes more confusion.

It's like a never ending circle on the internet with false information:

new guy goes to internet to learn, people feed him what they think they know but actually just heard from someone;
new guy tells other people what he now "knows" to be true;
new guy is no longer the new guy and is now the guy feeding the new guys false information.

I wish people would either
A. not reply
B. list where to obtain the information
C. answer only if they know the information to be true and not just something they heard
D. give their opinion and clearly state that it is just that

The slide has a spring pushing it forward so to speak, the slide stop is on a spring pulling it down.  The pressure of the slide going forward against the slide stop keeps the slide stop from going down, however these types of pistols don't have a whole lot of force to hold it, so when you insert a magazine its relatively easy to "rattle" the slide enough to take some pressure off the slide stop and cause it to fall down and the slide to fall forward.  A stronger spring could help prevent this if that is what you seek, however you may run into other problems.  Simply pushing on the stop with your thumb is pretty easy as well.

Personally, it doesn't bother me. I understand many beleive (rightfully so) that the pistol should not perform any function that the operator didn't induce, however everything is a compromise and I am perfectly happy with the way the M&P (and others that do this) operate.

I think EVERY term is made-up at some point in it's life.  For example, internet and smartphone.  Autoforwarding is just a simple way to describe something a bit complicated wordy when typed out.

You can do things to reduce or prevent it: Roughen up the surfaces on the slide catch or slide notch, clean your mags, and/or upgrade your springs and followers in your mags so they make the slide catch fully engage in the groove. Some of my mags got dirty and were only hitting it hard enough so it barely caught on the slide notch and was knocked out on mag insertion.
