80's vintage crunchenticker, I has it!

I got a steal of a deal on one via an online auction.  It's one of the pistols I had a few years back that I've always regretted trading, so when the deal came up, I got it.  I even picked up a new MecGar 17 round mag that fits flush like the factory 15 rounder.  I've ordered replacement springs (recoil, hammer and magazine) and a replacement gripset from Midway and am considering getting a new extractor spring with my next order from them.

It's not a bad pistol, but it's got a magazine safety.  I've looked where Browning put theirs and it's not there.  Without all the gnashing of teeth and wailing about deactivating factory safety devices, how (apart from sending it back to S&W and asking) would one deactivate a 59xx series pistol's magazine safety?

And does anyone have a line on second hand adjustable rear sight components?  This one needs a couple of bits to be 100%, but I'm not wanting to spend the price of the pistol again on a new rear sight assembly.

Numrich has S&W parts.

As for the magazine safety, I know one guy that was saved by this feature in a ground fight.  The only advantage I see to not having a magazine safety is if you didn't have any magazines, at least you'd have a single shot pistol.  That doesn't seem to be a good scenario or option to me, but that is just my opinion.

Remove the rear sight, pushing from left to right as you look at the back of the pistol.  Underneath the rear sight you'll find two spring loaded plungers, the one on the left side as you look at the back of the pistol is the magazine disconnect.  It should be either black or white plastic.

I know that's what it is but I'm not sure if you just remove the whole shootin' match or what as I prefer my Smiths to be as they came from the factory but YMO(bviously)V.

Enjoy your new pistol!

Figured I'd throw an update on my progress bringing the new pistol up to speed.
-both rear sight retaining pins are stuck in the rear sight body, so I'm waiting on a package from Numrich with a new rear sight body, retaining pins and springs.  Going to try and salvage the sight blade since that's the only part that I couldn't find and the rear sight windage screw is actually turning now!
-original recoil spring was almost an inch shorter than new replacement recoil spring.  I should have done a couple of side-by-side pics of the recoil springs and magazine springs, since I replaced the magazine spring and follower.  There's a huge difference between empty mag dropping between the original and new mag spring.
-I ordered a new set of the one piece zytel grips, but they only had the straight back ones, ala the 4006, in stock.  They are brand new and look good, but they feel different.  I'll decide after I look into refinishing costs.  Thinking about sending it to Woody at Gulf Coast Shooting Supply for a truly 80's 2 tone look.
-It definitely needs a new trigger return spring.  The dry fire I've done over the last week has been showing me that ever slowly.  I wonder if Wolff sells a complete spring kit for the 59xx pistol?
-I'm really looking forward to using this pistol in a match or 2.  It fits in one of my Beretta holsters, but it shouldn't be too hard to get a decent kydex holster for it.

I'll be posting some "after" pics, but here's some of the original pistol

Aren't you going to tell us how much you paid for it?

$260 and $25 shipping.  My friendly neighborhood FFL took pity on me when he saw what I'd gotten myself into and didn't charge me for the transfer.

And since I'm here, might as well post an update.  Got the replacement rear sight body from Numrich.  Boy, talk about disappointment.  It was in worse condition than the one I was trying to replace.  Pitted, grimy and in overall shit state.  It's in the envelope and headed back to Numrich for a refund.  I'm just going to use the parts I've bought to rebuild the base I've got.  I'll be hitting the hardware store this weekend for a drill bit for metal since all the ones I have now seem to be designed for wood and just drill out the stuck bits.

I really should have taken side by side pictures before I sent the craptastic base back to Numrich.

I've also got a couple of more MecGar 17 round flush fit mags on the way.  Discovered by trial and error, that the Galco Yaqui slides I use for my SIG and Beretta also work quite well with the S&W, so my holster problem is solved for the moment.
