The Elite has a heavy Brigadier slide, dove tail front sights, shorter stainless barrel, skeletonized hammer, reduced radius back-strap (before it was standard on the 92) and is a "G" (decock only) model.  They came on the scene around 1998-99 and were replaced in 2000 by the Elite II which sported some further enhancements (trigger, stainless slide, enhanced mag release, etc).  They have a nice SA trigger but I'm not sure if they came with a "tuned" trigger or just a standard trigger.

I think this was pretty much Beretta's attempt at a gun for IDPA/action pistol competition, but it made a good duty gun as well.

I have one and love it, and it is my primary shooting gun for target practice and action pistol shooting.

I'm not sure what they run for today.  When I bought mine new back in 1999 it was around $700.  Blue Book on a 100% NIB gun is $725 and a 98% gun is $585.

There have been three different Elites, and a fourth is expected.

Elite/Elite I - As Cobra66 described. Brigadier G slide, stainless barrel, etc.
Elite IA - Vertec-based. Most of the same changes as the Elite I.
Elite II - Updated Elite I, as Cobra66 mentioned. Added Novak-type sights, checkering instead of serrations, etc.

The Elite III is expected, but I haven't heard any details. (Then again, I haven't looked too hard.)
