Went looking for a 92FS last week. Found one in local store, when I looked at it said
made in Italy. Employee said it was brand new.

When I brought it home serial# says made in 2004. It has a plastic guide rod and a plastic lanyard but everything else seems to be steel, trigger, hammer, safety switch.

Could someone tell me about this model and differences between US made. Also I thought the other parts are plastic.
Thanks for any info.

Same as American made just imported so they could charge you more.  No differences except for all the made in Italy marks and such.

The ones made in Italy seem to be a little nicer. Like better fit and finish. But its basicaly the same as the USA models. I have an older USA model which has all metal parts back from the 80's. But now the newer USA models have lots of plastic parts. I would replace the plastic guide rod with a metal one and you should be good to go.

The plastic parts haven't been a problem for me. The trigger is just plastic coated, which I think makes it have better grip. Yes, the guide rod is plastic, but it makes the weapon more sand resistant and is self lubricating. I've kept all the plastic parts on my Italian 92fs and my American 92fs Vertec.

ETA- To address your original question- I haven't really noticed any big differences between the US and Italian pistols. I just personally think the Italian one has more appeal to diehard Beretta aficionados.
