I got my beretta a couple of months ago and finally realized that I might not be cleaning the barrel right. I first been pushing my partially oiled cloth down the barrel from the muzzle towards the action. Then I take the bore brush and oil it, the push it down the same way about 10 times. The last thing I do is run a couple more patches down it to make sure it's clean.

I have heard from someone that I should clean the barrel from the muzzle, not the breech/action like I saw on arfcom. Is this right?

Am I using the bore brush right?

If it makes you feel any better, I'm a Beretta armorer and I clean it from both ends. Hasn't affected the accuracy of any Beretta I own.  Just ensure not to use a steel brush.

This is what I do, not because I know any better but from what I understand, the reason you don't want to go from the muzzle with a rod is because your rod can bung up the crown if you aren't careful.  There is no such problem with a bore snake.  When I do use a rod, it do it from the rear on any gun that I can.  Not all rifles allow it though.

if you are using brass brushes with brass or aluminum rods, you will be fine.  brass is softer than chromed steel, and therefore can't really hurt the steel.  now, if your brushes have steel cores or you are using a steel rod, all bets are off and you need to be significantly more careful
