I just purchased a Beretta 92FS Brigadier from a coworker. Now I have no idea what the differance between a 92FS and the Brigadier is. Can someone with more knowlege then I help out. The gun also came with several 15rnd "asian contract" mags. Do I need to upgrade the springs or followers in these?
Thanxs allot for your help.

I think Brig. has the shorter barrel, or maybe that was the Centurion...

shorter barrel (.2 inches) novak cuts for sight replacement in the front and back, and a heavier slide.

I think thats it IIRC.

As far as the mags go...  Take them out and shoot them to see if they need anything.

If you are using it for carry or personal protection I would get some Factory mags.  Take those out and shoot them too.  Nothing can instill trust in your equipment like using it.

As a teacher of mine in H.S. would say "There's no such thing as a stupid question just stupid people."

Its not a stupid question though.  I know the Brig. has the heavier slide but not sure about the barrel and sights part.  I thought it had the same 4.9" Barrel as the FS.  Could be wrong though.

Which one is DA only?

The exact length of barrel depends on the specifc model.  Some models use a 4.7" that is flush with the end of the slide and others use the 4.9" that extends past the slide a little.    It doesn't make any difference except for the cosmetics.

Anything with a 'D' (92D, 96D, 9000D) is DAO.
Anything with a 'G' is a decock only with a safety lever that springs back to the fire position like a Sig.

Full size Brigadiers have a 4.9 inch barrel, same as the regular 92FS, the slide is reinforced with a "hump" over the locking area and has a removable front sight, (nice for swapping into night sights).
It also weighs in almost 1 ounce heavier than the regular 92.

Thanks for the help, guys. What would you recommend for carry/self defense ammo. I used to have Black Talons (shows how long ago I had my other 9mm). Anything coparable or better out there?

My "silvertips" preceded the "talons"
There are much better out there...if I recall, black talons weren't +P rated either.
If you haven't been to a larger gunshop lately, the choices may amaze...priced accordingly.

The best designed hollowpoints are the current generation Winchester SXT and any of the rounds using the Gold Dot bullet.  The Federal HydraShoks are decent but outdated compared to the other newer designs.  Federal is supposed to have a new line of ammo coming out to replace the HydraShok and it should be equal to the Gold Dot and SXT.

But in all honestly it doesn't matter.  Accurately fired FMJ is much more effective than the best engineered JHP that misses.  You shoulkd pick whichever premium hollowpoint is accurate and most importantly reliable in your pistol.

Trey-W & Shadowblade gives you the correct answers to your question (wich is not stupid), regardind the magazines, dump the asians ones, and buy some Mec-Gar brand, they are the best !!!.
For the ammo, my suggestion is : GOLD DOT, maybe other brands were better, but GD is the most versatile. HAVE FUN
