There are a few current versions available and I was wondering which one is the most desired amongst 92 enthusiasts?

If I ever get another 92 it'll be an Inox version. IMHO they look the nicest.

I can never brag enough about my 92D Centurion, DAO action , slick slide no safety . 15 years of lots of use and 100% reliability! However I don't think they still produce this model.

Nope no more , I have a 92 FS centurion I bought 17 years ago as my first handgun. Still love it .

The new 92 a1 compact Inox is sweet though !

For a full size pistol the 92A1 seems to be the best bang for the buck.  Replaceable sights are a huge plus and was the deciding factor when choosing between the 92A1 and the M9A1.

The desired pistols are the ones that are no longer made. Elites, Centurions, etc.

Of the new pistols I would go with a 92A1, it is the true updated 92. The M9A1 is really just an old style 92fs with a frame rail.

Anybody know if the 92a1 will fit in the current GI flap holster ?

I dig my 92FS Brigadiers.  But, as previously said, once beretta has a good product they quickly discontinue it...

Will definitely fit a gi holster.

Personally I find the Italian made guns more desirable. I like having Italian proofs on my Berettas.

92a1 also has a frame buffer built in , slide is the beefier slide that's used on the .40 cal versions , plus a rail - also ships with 3 -17 rd mags
Definitely the best in my mind

Can't say enough good things about the 92a1. If you plan on putting night sights on the pistol it is the only way to go. Integrated rail has a lot of room to accomodate different lights. Recoil impulse and muzzle flip are negligible with the heavy slide and recoil buffer.

Two questions, what are the differences (if any) between the mil and civilian versions of the M9?
What are the differences between the US and Italian made versions of the same pistol?

Sights (3 dot vs dot & post) and markings. The included magazines will also be different depending on when the pistol was manufactured.

No real difference between US and Italian on than roll marks. Some Italian models have a slightly different finish on the slide.

Check with your dealer to find out about the mags. You will likely find the Italian gun shipped with 10rnd mags (owners manual even says something about this crap). Many dealers will likely swap the 10 rnd mags out for 15 or 17 if you ask.

The only objective differences between the US and Italian Berettas is the factory the markings in relation to their origins.

I haven't had the opportunity to compare the military and commercial M9s side by side. I can only tell you that I can't tell the differences between NEW military M9s(with the updated plastic parts) that I've used and my personally owned commercial M9 other than the absence of "Property of US Government" marking.

Incorrect. The commercial M9s have the dot and post paint on the sights. I'll also note that the dot-post and 3 dot sights are the same exact sights with the same indentations into them. The only difference is where the white paint is applied. One can easily remove the paint(which inevitably wears off of military M9s anyway) and reapply according to their preferences, really making it a non-issue.
