Hey guys,
I picked up my first Beretta tonight at a local gun show. I was thinking about replacing the factory plastic guide rod with one made by Wolff. Is it a worthwhile upgrade? Or am i throwing money down the drain? Thanks! |

I think so,but you will still need to use part #39 in this schematic... http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=0/sid=877/schematicsdetail/90-Two
as the hole for the guide rod in the Slide is larger on a Dash. Steve Bedair makes a "captive" metal unit. $45 USD shipped, but he needs your old one 1st. http://guiderod.com/specialorders.html Not bad, considering what Brownells wants for replacement plastic. |

@JMint, You will have to replace the Recoil Spring at some point, and while the captured polymer guiderod with fluting may improve reliability ,it's a PITA. And there are "tolerances" built into the metal rods. Just don't have your Slide locked back and drop your weapon... Brownells wants $50+ USD for a replacement polymer "Captured" guide rod assembly for 92-A1 / Dash Two...... . if , they have them in stock, let alone the parts necessary. Were you to just replace the spring ,it's easy to mess up the prongs on the end cap. It's a crapshoot at best. But,you could, just reuse the rod and bushing. If you want to stay with a "captured" assembly,it's cheaper to get the metal one from Olhasso. Remove a small allen screw from the end,and replace spring when necessary. Cheapest solution when it's time to change recoil spring,is buy new spring,re-use referenced bushing and rod you have, and be done. Next is buy a metal guiderod, new spring, and re-use referenced Plastic part. 1 more option for you; Clicky Me Draw your own conclusion |
