Most of your questions are subjective to individuals (too wide? etc.) taste, IMO. As a Beretta & H&K owner, I think you've making a step down going from the H&K.

I bought a 92g because I feel it offered features which enhance the model 92. The spring loaded decocker avoids the disabled mode. Night sights are quality item. Fits all 92 leather and barrel 'seems' to be better protected with this bushingless design.
The trigger, for me, is far better than HK pistols. Accuracy is astounding. My first 100rds. fired showed superior quality in handling, accuracy, ergonomics, definately a bargin in todays market of questionable firearms quality.
My problem with it is that after many years trying to master the 1911, the double/single thing is putting me off from trying to get used to two types of actions. I am concerned I will be a master of none.

You pull the trigger, the gun goes "bang". Unless you're shooting against Rob Leatham or similiar, how "expert" did you need to get?

I am not an expert though I have sure spent a bunch of trigger time.  I would indeed like to shoot with Leatham, shooting with better [far better] shooters is allways fun.  I do get to shoot with some seriously good shooters and although I suck, it is allways great to shoot with them and attempt to advance my skills. My statement meant just what I said. Trying, for me, to shoot the two types is alluring but may not be a best plan.
This is the evil device distracting my attention;
