Does the Berretta Cougar 8040 ( now Stoeger) and the 96F use the same mag or are they different? Thanks for any info! |

Cougar and 96 mags can fit eachother.
There is a slight difference in the magazine cut-out to fit the magazine catch. The slot is cut higher and to get one to fit you need to cut another hole in the magazine for the different pistols. Hold them up side by side and you will see the difference. As far as how reliable this mod can be......depends on how well you fit the slot. Easier to buy magazine for the pistol |

Somebody did that modification for a price.
I remember seeing it on the web some years back. I believe it also requires a minor change in technique when load/unloading because of the notch placement. More a matter of timing so you don't get a hang-up. Making sure you hold the mag-release button long enough, or something like that. IF the magazines are interchangeable, I'd be interested in getting that second notch cut. |

I was given a couple mags for the 8040 once. They were cheap aftermarket mags. Instead of throwing them away, I filled the top whole with JB Weld,
then used 800 grit paper to smooth it down. I would NEVER depend on them to save my ass, but they work pretty good for range mags. |
