Picked up a box of RA9T +P+ at the last fun show. Shouldn't be a problem in a 2 year old 92fs w/ wolf steel guide rod, right?

The guy I bought it from said he only knew of it being a problem if someone shoots a lot of it with the polymer guide rod ones. But I know gun show advice is just barely better than guessing.

It's perfectly fine. If you plan on shooting +P all the time, then just replace your recoil spring more often.

I wouldn't go crazy using that ammo. But it should be ok for sporadic use.

yeah, I was gonna shoot maybe 10 out of it to get the feel of the stuff then just use the rest as my home defense stuff. Wasn't planning on going through boxes of the stuff.

If memory serves the Border Patrol used +P+ ammo in their Berettas.  Don't recall which load exactly.  It's been a few years since the BP used Berettas.

Go ahead, the weapon won't even notice.  It'll still go "bang" until the magazine is empty and the slide locks to the rear.  You'll wear-out your wallet long before you wear-out or break your Beretta.  Just change the recoil-spring every four or five thousand rounds with a new Factory 13lb example.  Good luck.

Nope, its fine to use and can handle +P with no issue.

BP around here used 96s for several years, did they have 92s before that?

It's rated for NATO standard ammo, so any off the shelf ammo is no challenge for it. The guy you bought it from doesnt have a clue though. Having a poly guiderod has nothing to do with the ammo its rated for, lol!!

I'm almost certain they did.  I believe it was their first auto.  This would have been probably late 80's.

I'd change out the standard recoil spring to a heavier one if shooting an extended number of +P+ ammunition.

*I* wouldn't do more than a mag or so unless I upped the recoil spring by 3-4lbs. Too nice of a gun to beat the hell out of with +P+ ammo, IMO.

I don't see how the recoil rod would have any affect on ammo use................

Higher Power Recoil Spring for sure.

You still get Frame Battering though...

Mate, have you thought of a "recoil buffer"?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=recoil+buffer+for+beretta+92

I do not like the 2 stage designs.

Swissbianco or Blackjack for added protection= +1

Too bad the Height Red Buffs are discontinued.

Or,
get a DASH 2, or 92/96 A-1 with internal buffer,built for the .40 S+W cartridge.

Cheers,Stix

I'm not really looking to shoot a lot of the stuff. Too expensive. it was just a good deal and in stock at a gun show. Only have a box so i was looking to test a handful and leave the other stuff for home defense.

A better recoil spring was on my list of things to get eventually anyway.

thanks to everyone for the input

I have run thousands of rounds of Federal 9bple (115g +p+) through my 92s. with zero problems.  I'm sure it will cause wear faster than non plus P but that's still 10s of thousands of rounds.  I'm not too concerned about wearing out a $500 pistol after shooting $5000+ worth of ammo.

Dekalb County Police (Atlanta GA AOR), used the Beretta 92 with 9BPLE 9mm 115 Gr +P+ for over 10 years, and shot alot of shit heads with that combo. Their pistols held up great, and the combo was effective. Contrary to what the Dentists in lab coats say, the Hi Speed 115 Grain load meet their needs and they were very happy with the performance of the ammunition, and the weapon.

Reloads bought at a gunshow before I knew better. Weak case. Blew out the ass end of the case. Locked up the slide, blew the grips apart, tiny fragment of brass in my hand, bits of brass in firing pin chamber. Took it to smith at range. Five minutes and a new grip screw later back to blasting away. NEVER SHOOT RELOADS THAT ARE NOT FACTORY ORYOUR OWN !!!!!!!! KNOW THY AMMO !!!!!!
