I have 2 SIG P6's. One was manufactured in 1982 and the other in 1979. The 82 feeds and shots anything I put in it and works flawlessly. The 79 feeds and shoots anything I put in it, however, I have noticed that when I clear the gun, with a live round in the chamber, the slide is somewhat difficult to operate. I field stripped it and checked everything. On an empty chamber it operates smooth and flawless. I checked the chamber with a live round and a snap-cap, while barrel was removed. The snap-cap fit nice and fell out when the barrel was tipped back. The live round, however, fits kinda snug and is difficult to remove. Live round is a Hornady 124gr. Gold Dot and I used several different rounds form this lot just to confirm is wasn't this particular round. I also tested these same rounds in the 82 and they worked fine. It appears the chamber is short on this barrel. I knew the earlier P6's had a different feed ramp angle but never heard of a short chamber.

Anyone have a simular experience with older P6's.

IIRC, there was a date where they switched between a a non beveled feed ramp to a beveled one. Are yours different?

No they are both the same. I mic'ed the chambers and the 79 is actually a little larger than the 82, albeit not by much, but well within tolerences.

After messing with them some more I think it might actually be a recoil spring issue, the 79 is not as stiff as the 82 and might be binding on the slide. The spring tends to want to bend to the side when putting it back in the slide. I have 3 other SIGS and this is not normal.

Anyone else with any ideas?
