| Besides 0.5" of barrel length, someone please explain the practical differences in these two weapons. I'm having difficulty is seeing past the redundancy here. 0.5" does not equal a whole lot of ballistic performance with regard to bbl length.... Same mag capacity, so WTF? |

The 226 feels bigger than the dimensions would lead you to believe. It is also considerably heavier. As far as range use the 226 wins hands down. It's just more comfortable to shoot, faster follow up shots, etc. My wife loves shooting mine.
The 229 is a much better carry gun. That little bit of size and weight make a huge difference in all day carry. If I could only have one it would be the 229. It's a good combination of size, weight, capacity, and fun to shoot. Of course if you buy one, you will most likely end up buying the other before it over. Terry |

The 229 is probably my favorite, but both are excellent weapons. |
