im looking at getting a 229 in .40 just wondering what you guys' opinions are on the beavertail of the Elite version. does it help with recoil? better grip?
is there a trade off if you are CCW? |
| The beavertail on 220 Elite does not function like the grip safety of my 1911s. The web of my primary hand does not engage fully up to the tail on the Elite. The beavertail was a non issue for me. It just so happens that it comes on the only all steel pistol in the Sig Sauer catalog at the time (2008). |

If you're carrying concealed I don't see the tail as an issue. Most people carry IWB with a forward cant which makes the butt of the grip the highest part sticking up. If I print at all it's because of the grip, never the hammer or slide.
I don't like the beaver tail, had a chance to handle one, and I just didn't see the point. But it does look cool! |
| It wouldn't say that it makes as big a difference shooting then a good beavertail on a 1911, but I think my hand finds it's home on a speedy draw quicker then without. I wouldn't want it on a concealed pistol though. I never thought of how it looks when I picked up my 229 elite. The SRT and beavertail are the only options I wanted on my elite since I've ditched the sights, grips and went to a short trigger. Outside carry= Yes. concealed= No. Just my experiences with both BT and non BT. Hope that helps. |

The STR and the "short trigger" are two different things. Sig has been offering the short trigger for some time. The Short Trigger Reset is a newer development. The STR has more to do with how the trigger catches the sear I believe. Yep. With the SRT the trigger resets to a ready to fire position in a shorter distance (quicker follow up shots). The short trigger is just a thinner trigger that is a little easier to reach. I recommend both and thinner grips like the Hogue G10s, but it's purely preference. I've basically turned my 229 elite into a E2 version with a beavertail and minor other differences. I might pick up a E2 229 sometime in the future, but I think I got my elite where I want it so why mess with a good thing? Hope that helps. |

thanks, if i get the regular 229 (might go with a 550 dollar CPO), im going to send it to Sig and get the SRT and short trigger installed.
