I just bought my wife a Sig 228. A friend knew I was looking for a compact 9mm for my wife, and knew how much I liked my 226, suggested a new 228 at the local gun shop. To my surprise, it shot VERY well for a compact. I was curious what is the difference between the 228 and the 229? Why did Sig stop making this model? It is quite a joy to shot. My wife is a novice shooter, but still had no problem hitting the center of the target consistently. And I had no problems with double taps or rapid fire grouping. I only wish I had found this pistol sooner!
I am looking to add new sights, something along a three dot night site, my 226 has them, and the wife likes them better. I don't know why, she shot better than ever with the new pistol, versus my used 226... Does anyone have any suggestions on what nite sights are better than others? I am also thinking of getting another barrel for a suppresser, are there any manufacturers that make a tactical barrel for this unit? Also, what are the options of changing out to .357 Sig or .40 cal? I saw in another post that if I want to convert this to a .22 cal, to look for the 229 no rail kit.... Is this true? Thanks for the help. |

The SIG 228 uses the older stamped steel slide. The 229 uses a milled stainless slide. The newer design was to handle the higher pressure of the 40 S & W. So converting a 228 to 40 or 357 probably not in the cards. The older style slide is a bit lighter.
SIG still makes the 228 but rarely imports them into this country. The 229 is made over here and in SIG's view just duplicates what the 228 does. Have owned a 228 for a number of years. |
