I bought a new 9mm P226R a few months ago and I'm wanting to do some upgrading.  I really like the 226, as I have had w. german models for quite some time now.   What are some internal upgrades I could do to improve reliability?  One of the things I was wondering about is the short reset trigger.  What is this?  Also, what about recoil springs (green, orange, white???) firing pins,  guide rods, triggers...?

I wouldn't do a thing to it for reliability. I have a 226 that has never had an issue (a 220 and a 239 without issues too for that matter)

you dont need to do anything to improve reliability.  I would spend the money on mags and ammo.  IF you really want something you could get grips, night sights if you dont have them.

Short Reset Trigger or SRT. SIG engineers designed the SRT to provide you the same great safety and smooth action of the SIG DA/SA with a comfortable reset that is 60% shorter for faster trigger return and surgical control during high speed shooting

Not worth it unless it came with your gun IMO
I have it on my P226R ST Elite but My P226R is DA/SA and feels just as sweet!

+1 for the srt trigger, i love it on my elite.  other than that mags, ammo, spare parts if you want to be safe.  its not a 1911 where you need to swap out 80% of the factory parts to make it reliable

Don't be deterred by the naysayers. I can't leave my guns in stock condition either.

I usually make the following changes:

1. Hogue wraparound finger grips.
2. TJ's custom stainless steel grip screws.
3. Steve Bedair or Gray Guns stainless steel guide rod.
4. Meprolight night sights.
5. If you have an older SIG, switch out the longer hammer strut and metal base for the shorter strut and plastic base. This change generally gives you a smoother trigger pull and makes changing the mainsprings much easier.
6. Switch to a 19 lb. or 18 lb. mainspring.
7. If you have an older SIG, switch out the takedown lever to the newer style.
8. Short Reset Trigger kit, if you can find any for sale.

Don't mess with the recoil spring. The factory spring generally works just fine.

I use Brian Enos's Slide Glide (Lite) on the rails, sear, hammer strut and hammer and Slip 2000 EWL on everything else. I like Hoppe's Elite Cleaner as a solvent, and it is odorless.

Buy yourself some extra Mec-Gar mags and lots of good ammo.

Good luck mate.

Im with everyone who recommended the SRT upgrade, after owning a 226 elite I wont shoot another Sig without this trigger, Sig should make it their standard trigger already.
