I just got a slightly used Sig P229 today. First, I gotta say, it is an absolutely beautiful solid pistol. My issue is, the slide release is nearly impossible to disengage with an empty mag in. I've tried a few different mags, and this sucker is TIGHT. Will this ease up after a break in period? Obviously I'm not real crazy about having someone try to file it down. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

DO NOT FILE IT DOWN OR ALTER IT!  The slide catch is doing what is supposed to do.  The follower from the mag is pushing up on the slide catch.  That, along with the slide pushing forward, will make it more difficult to push down.  This is normal.

If you need to release the slide forward, pull back slightly on the slide while pushing down on the slide catch.  Or just release the slide without an empty mag in the pistol.

Put the file DOWN..and step away from the SIg....
Just new...buy snap caps..practice mag changes, and dry fire...
Take apart your mag and clean and oil..your pistol too for that matter....
DO NOT ALTER THE SLIDE CATCH ON THAT FINE PIECE OF ART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA....Damn Res Dog beat me in while I was typing..lol

LOL, about the last thing I'd actually do is let someone take a file to this baby. Just wondering how to proceed.

I've never figured out why people try to do this.

And here I thought it was going to be another "my slide lock doesn't work!" thread from a fellow high-thumbs shooter.
