Hi all,

I've been reading about all the surplus P6 and have finally found one.

Just a few questions for those who have recently picked up the police-trade in P6:

- it seems that the hammer on my gun will bounce back after it drops and contacts the firing pin/slide.......my question is if any one else has the same experience?  I've test fired my gun, and so far it hasn't FTF or FTE.  It goes bang every time I pull the trigger....

- which leds me to my next question.  How do I lightened the VERY heavy double action trigger pull?  or is it something that is just too much of a hassel to fix?  What about the single action trigger pull?  Is there anything that can be done about the trigger pull?

Thanks in adavance.

Hammer rebound is normal, supposed to work that way.

Lighter hammer spring may help the DA.

Thanks...
as you can tell, i'm a Sig Sauer noob.

Any other tips or mods to help with the DA trigger pull?

Rather than start a new thread, I'll post this here:

I received my police trade-in Sig P6  from AIM some time back and did a write-up in the "official" photo thread. On March 4, 2008 I shipped my Sig to Sig Sauer for the SRT (short reset trigger) and AEP (action enhancement package). I just received it at work today, March 19, 2008.

1) I sent the P6 in the original blue box it shipped in from AIM. They shipped my blue box back but without the pistol inside. Rather, they slipped it into this number.

I thought this was a nice touch.

2) The DA pull on this pistol is really something else. I'm a 1911 man and I don't have any DAK or DAO pistols so take this FWIW. This pistol has by far the lightest and smoothest DA pull I''ve ever experienced.

3) The reset, particularly for SA is indeed, short. I can't wait to spend some quality time with this pistol.

4) Sig even installed some new grip screws and sent back all my original parts in a plastic baggie in the case. Again, nice touch.

My initial impression of the Sig custom shop and their work is positive. If any of my conclusions or opinions change once I wring the pistol out a little, I'll let y'all know. I will note that I thought someone in this forum suggested that Sig would swap the hammer out if you had them do trigger work. Obviously, it appears that they left the unusual P6 hammer in place.

Go to Sig's website.  They have several packages listed.

Pistol: $274.00 and some change shipped from AIM
FFL Transfer fee: $20.00
Two way next day shipping/labor/parts from Sig Sauer: $304.00 and some change

Total damage: just under six bills.

I went with Sig's VIP shipping as the pistol is shipped next day both ways for the flat rate of (IIRC) $70.00. Sig will email you a shipping label that you simply print out and affix to the package. You may want to shop around on shipping rates. Last time I sent a pistol one-way it wound up costing me about $55.00.  YMMV

Are you sure they did the SRT package on that?  I've had Sig install the SRT on three P6's, each one getting new hammers.  I'm sending another in the morning to Sig, they still say the SRT requries a new hammer.  I'm assuming you got the service package and action package based on the price listed, those don't include the SRT.  You can see two of my SRT P6's here:

They best have! My email to Ken Whitney could not have been clearer:

Dear Ken,

We spoke last Thursday about having some work done on a P6 pistol in the custom shop. I had indicated that I wished to have the Short Reset Trigger upgrde as well as the Action enhancement package. We also talked about using the VIP shipping option as well.

The invoice showing the work performed was included in the box and I looked at it briefly as I had intended on scanning it. I don't have it handy.

The box had the grip screws in a little plastic baggie with these two parts. I presume that they are the original sear and safety lever *shrug*`

eta: yup, pretty sure

All of the pictures above is SSSOOOOO tempting....

but the thought of putting $300 into the P6 just doesn't quite click with me.  For $300, i'll just get another P6, or more ammo.  I'm sure the $300 is well worth it and money well spent, but I don't really see it being practical for me (just me).

I do think, however, that I will be getting some Wolfe springs to put into the gun.

How hard is it to do the spring changes?  Is it something that the weekend-warrior gunsmith can do, or a task that needs a "real" gunsmith?  I really haven't opened up the P6 (other than field stripping for cleaning), so how complicated are the insides?

Thanks

The total was exactly $304.90. The work improved the pistol but it's not overwhelmingly better. The P6 is a heck of a nice pistol to begin with. I probably wouldn't do it over again if I had the chance, either. The most dramatic improvement is to the DA pull and most my shooting is done in SA. I can't carry in my state.
